Totshield Stove Guard for Stoves with Control Knobs Located in the Back (Usually Electric Stoves) Reviews

Totshield Stove Guard for Stoves with Control Knobs Located in the Back (Usually Electric Stoves)

Totshield Stove Guard for Stoves with Control Knobs Located in the Back (Usually Electric Stoves)

Product Description

The TotShield® stove guard (pat. 7,624,730) has an innovative design. It doesn't rely on adhesive strips to support the guard panel like the other stove guards. It fits on most free standing stoves, and can be installed or removed in seconds! It keeps toddlers hands away from the knobs and the burners.
The stove guards for gas and electric stoves are basically the same. The only difference is that the guard panel for the gas stove is 1.5 inches taller. By design, the shield panel rests on the oven door handle. The control knobs of most gas stoves are located in the front and the oven door handle is about 1.5 inches lower than the handle on most electric stoves, which have the control knobs located in the rear.
The stove guard shown in the picture was made of tinted material for clarity of photography. The commercial products are made of clear material. The clear material absorbs less heat and matches with stoves of any color.

  • Tilted shield for more cookware space. Innovative design, guaranteed to work
  • Adjustable to fit most 30 inch free standing electric stoves
  • No permanent mounting or permanent adhesive tape is required
  • Installed or removed instantly for easy cleaning
  • Shields hot stove top and control knobs. Lifetime Warranty

This guard a very easy to set up. However, i found that the 'official' instructions are sub-optimal. If you hang the guard as shown in the picture, it protrudes a little too much. It also encourages the kids to try and pull it down by grabbing the outside edge. Instead:

1. After assembly, stick the shield in such a way that it protrudes towards the range (instead of away from it). On my stove, this seems perfectly safe; the shield doesn't prevent us from using any pans and doesn't get too hot. This way it fits flush.

2. There are a couple of optional stoppers that you can stick underneath the guard. They serve no purpose if attached underneath because the guard is well supported by the oven handle anyways. However, these stoppers are very useful if attacked sideways. This will prevents the guard from moving sideways when kids push it; and they will.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a product that works!!!!, April 12, 2009

I have a two year old son who gets into everything. I became increasingly frustrated with the one and only stove guard that was on the market. It melted and when the stove was on it would fall off, because the sticky tabs couldn't handle the heat. It was more of a hazard than a safeguard. Then last weekend he attempted to pull a boiling pot off of the stove when my husband stepped away momentarily without thinking. I knew then I had to do something. I found the totshield, ordered it and received it quickly. It is phenominal!! Not only does it not melt, but it can't fall off because it slips through the stove handle. It sticks out far enough that even when my son got on a step stool he couldn't reach the pots and he was unable to pull anything off the stove. Finally a product that works for a potentially dangerous appliance. Thanks so much totshield for your incredible invention!! No home should go without the totshield.

3.0 out of 5 stars Helpful, but not perfect. (What IS?), October 17, 2010

So far, I've found no way to tighten this thing enough so the bottom pieces stay put. They move whenever anyone so much as bumps the stove guard and it gets lopsided and is rendered not as effective.
Additionally, my daughter is 21 months old and, though she is slightly tall for her age, she was able to easily reach around the sides of this item and touch the burners on my glass-top range (which I hate, but it came with the house and replacing it is way down on our list of things to do). We're always with her and we're good about keeping her away from the stove, but accidents can happen.
Altogether, this item might save you a couple precious seconds if your kid is going for the stove. That and the fact that I haven't seen anything that looks more effective are the only reasons this remains on our range.
Let's face it... you can buy all the little tools and gadgets in the world to protect them but, in the end, YOU are responsible for keeping them safe.
